Supernova Dog Training

About Raul

While others mingle, I'm usually the introvert making best friends with someone's dog.

I grew up around dogs my whole life — especially large breeds. My first family dog Chester started it all. Then came Opie in 2014, my first real taste of obedience training.

But it wasn't until Nova that everything changed.

My teacher. My inspiration.

Nova

In 2020 my wife and I brought home Nova — my dream German Shepherd. I thought I was ready. But balancing school, work, and a high-energy dog during a pandemic was more than I expected.

By the time I graduated from SJSU, Nova had developed serious behavioral issues — a mirror of my own lack of consistency and structure. That realization pushed me to take accountability and dive deep into dog training.

"Training Nova didn't just change her — it changed me."

MY TURNING POINT

The fear of leaving Nova behind without the structure we had built together was crushing. In the months leading up to surgery, I focused fully on her training. Our daily walks — filled with audiobooks and quiet connection — became my therapy.

I watched her grow into the balanced, more confident dog I now call Supernova. After a successful surgery and a second chance at life, I made a promise — to turn my passion into something real.

Then I was diagnosed with kidney cancer.

That promise became Supernova Dog Training.

Balanced training. Real results.

Who I am

I'm a balanced dog trainer based in San Jose, serving the South Bay Area. I specialize in obedience and behavioral modification tailored to your dog's specific needs — whether you're dealing with reactivity, anxiety, or starting fresh with a new puppy.

If Nova and I aren't hiking in the redwoods or at the beach, you'll probably find us at Pour Decisions Craft enjoying a morning coffee together.

Every dog deserves a chance.

Giving Back

I've worked hands-on with shelter dogs in the San Jose area — helping them build confidence, trust, and the skills they need to find a home. Every dog, regardless of their past, deserves the chance to become a well-balanced companion.

To keep that mission going in my own way, I offer recently adopted shelter dogs a special rate. Because the last thing a new dog needs is to end up back where they started.

FUN FACT ABOUT ME

I had Chester’s paw — my first dog — tattooed on my forearm a few months after we lost him. It’s both a tribute to his memory and a promise to be the best dog owner I can be for every pup that comes into my life.
